Overnight Oats

You’ll probably recall how breakfast-obsessed I am - it’s my favourite meal of the day! Smoothie bowls were (and still are) a love of mine, but I recently discovered a new brilliant breakfast… overnight oats.

This delightful breakfast is a little like cold porridge (but an awful lot more tasty!). It involves soaking oats overnight in milk along with any additional flavours you may desire - there are almost infinite combinations. Five minutes is all you need to prepare the oats the night before and makes breakfast-time super quick, easy and healthy if you’re in a rush in the morning!

I must have tried at least twenty different flavour combinations since I started making overnight oats, but I thought I’d share my favourite three so far (along with the basic recipe) so you can give them a go too…

for the basic oats:

  • 45g oats

  • 2 tsp chia seeds

  • 150-200ml almond milk

banana cinnamon:

  • 1 small banana, mashed

  • heaped 1/2 tsp cinnamon

  • 20g raisins

blueberry peanut butter:

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 tsp maple syrup

  • 1-2 tbsp peanut butter

  • 50-60g frozen blueberries

chocolate raspberry:

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 tsp maple syrup

  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder

  • 60g frozen raspberries

method:

In a tub (or mason jar if you fancy!), simply combine the basic oats ingredients with whichever flavour combination you choose. Leave overnight in the fridge and enjoy the next morning!

Overnight oats are such a simple and versatile breakfast - I really would recommend giving them a go. What better way to kick off the day with a pre-made, nourishing bowl of flavoursome oats?! Although I have stated specific quantities here, there really is no need to be exact in your measurements - it’s best just to wing it using up whatever you have around the kitchen.

Let me know in the comments if you have any other flavour requests - I’ll try to come up with recipes that you’d fancy!
