Winter Wonderland?

You’ve probably gathered from the news, or by experiencing it yourself, that the UK (particularly Scotland) has been hit by a huge amount of snow in recent days - a little bit of a combination of ‘the Beast from the East’ and ‘Storm Emma’. I don’t think I can ever remember having this much snow in my life, let alone in March - it’s supposed to be getting warmer for Spring after all!

So far I’ve had three days off school and it’s been great to just have some me time and relax. I didn’t leave the house on Wednesday; baked chocolate cookies (which featured on my Instagram story) and trekked for hours to buy food from Tesco on Thursday; ate loads of soup, vegan chilli (the recipe for which I’ll be sharing soon) and ice cream on Friday; then had a trip to town today for a music lesson with the trains finally working again. Although some elements have been a little boring, I’ve had a great few days and had loads of fun reading books, doing workouts and playing my oboe in prep for my grade 8 soon.

On top of all that, I finally decided to download and experiment with Lightroom and have been taking and editing loads of snowy photos, so I thought I might as well join in with the snowy photo craze and share some of them here…

All in all I’m pretty pleased with how the photos turned out and am loving using Lightroom too - it’s so easy and effective. I’d love to hear your own snowy stories - let me know in the comments. And if you have any tips on using Lightroom or any thoughts on my photography then I’d love to know too. Here’s hoping the snow melts quickly and it gets warmer for Spring soon!

Mom Jeans

Yay - today is a bonus day off of school thanks to the horrible blizzard conditions outside. I’m really hoping they go away soon - it’s supposed to be March tomorrow, I don’t particularly want snow! Regardless, the weather leaves me with time for a day of semi-relaxation or, in my case, some extra time to finish loads of work (life has been crazy busy lately which is why there’s been a bit of a gap in posting). I’m hoping to be able to catch up and chill out a little today - I really do need some time to de-stress!

Anyway, in complete contrast to the current heavy snow, Glasgow actually had a little sun (plus a slight rise in temperatures too!) last weekend, so I thought I’d do a mini fashion post about my new favourite outfit…

A couple of weeks ago I had my eyes retested after noticing a slight difficulty in seeing long distance even with my glasses on. Turns out my prescription has increased a fair bit and I now need to wear glasses pretty much full time (I’m in the process of giving contact lenses a go too, but they’re an absolute nightmare - any tips for getting them to stay in my eye would be much appreciated!). So with my prescription changing I finally got to pick a new pair and I’m now completely in love with these huge Dior frames! They’re a really great fit and I love the dark red frame with a little white on the inside to help brighten my face.

I bought my top from TK Maxx (I’ve only recently discovered how brilliant this shop is - would totally recommend if you haven’t tried it yet) for only £12.99 - I love the laid-back style with the cutouts both front and back.

My jeans were a spontaneous purchase from Topshop for £40. I’ve been hunting for a pair of skinny jeans for months with no success, until last time I was in Topshop and I thought I might as well give mom jeans a go. Turns out they’re amazing!! They’re super comfy and I love the frayed, slightly cropped edges with a high waist too. 10 out of 10 would recommend - and even if you’re not a fan of mom jeans, next time your jeans shopping it’s worth picking up a couple of different styles because you never know what you might end up liking!

vans and mom jeans

Last of all are my new Vans. The black and white is relatively basic but I opted for a slight difference getting platforms. Having been a Converse fan for years I have to admit I’m a total Vans convert - they’re much more comfortable for extended periods of walking and they have such a variety of styles too. For £55 the authentic platforms were a great buy - unfortunately the website won’t let me link to the black and white version, so here’s a link to the same style in other colours.

Once again, photo credits go to my mum - I really couldn’t do these fashion posts without her! And as usual I’d love to hear your thoughts on my outfit - which of my new items is your favourite? I’d love to know how your weather is compared to the horrors in Glasgow too. Hope you enjoy the rest of the week!

Pink Fluffy Jumper

Happy Monday everyone - or should I say congrats on surviving the start of yet another week?! At the weekend I had a lovely little shopping trip with my mum and after months of searching, I finally found and bought a new pair of jeans and new shoes (I’m sure they’ll feature in a post pretty soon). Here’s a little look at what I wore on this shopping spree…

I’m wearing denim jeans and a pale pink fluffy jumper from Hollister, paired with my white converse (as featured recently in this post). The jumper is super soft and really cosy (despite being cropped!), although unfortunately is does have a tendency to shed fluff everywhere… My jeans are brilliant and are really comfortable - they’re definitely one of my all-time favourite buys.

Although Hollister don’t have the exact items I’m wearing, here are links to their extensive range of jumpers and jeans. The jumpers on average cost about £30 and the jeans roughly £40. My advice, though, is to wait for their regular sales as you can get huge discounts on the products - I’m pretty sure I bought these jeans for just £15 in the sale last year!

All of these photos were taken in between the beautiful arches at the City Chambers in Glasgow. They’re just along from George Square and the architecture is absolutely gorgeous, so I’d definitely recommend having a little wander by if you’re in the city centre (it’s brilliant for photoshoots!). On that note, major thanks to my mum for putting up with me and taking all of these lovely photos in the freezing cold when we were both already exhausted from shopping!

I’d love to hear your thoughts on my outfit in the comments too - any tips on how to add to or improve my style would be much appreciated. Let me know what your favourite photo(s) are too or if you have any tips for fashion photoshoots. Have a great week!

Paesano Pizza

Who doesn’t just loveeee pizza?! Whether it’s going out for dinner, making your own at home or ordering a takeaway, I adore indulging in this delicious dish. The sheer variety of potential toppings makes it even better, particularly when having to meet different dietary requirements.

So when I planned a long-awaited shopping spree and catch up with one of my best friends, Amy, there was no doubt in our minds for visiting Paesano Pizza: a.k.a. my recently-discovered favourite pizza place, located close to George Square in the centre of Glasgow.

We arrived for a late lunch and had a short wait for a table. The atmosphere is vibrant and bustling, plus it’s lovely and and cosy - a perfect escape from a chilly winter’s day. And the design is gorgeous too: rustic wooden tables, the kitchen overlooking the restaurant, a huge brightly-lit sign all filling an industrial-style building to create the perfect design.

The staff were friendly and welcoming and we quickly found ourselves seated at a table. The menu offers nine basic pizzas plus a few specials, and a couple of the options are vegan. You can sub-in or sub-out as many toppings as you choose to further personalise your pizza, and prices are brilliant too, ranging from only £5 to £8 a pizza!

Service was fast without being rushed. I ordered the vegan special (topped with garlic and wild mushrooms) and Amy chose the margherita equivalent. And oh were they divine...

The pizza bases are beautiful and it makes the huge crusts deliciously soft to eat. The centre of the pizza is super thin and the tomato sauce is delicious with any toppings you choose. Given my obsession with spice, I tend to add chilli oil to mine which gives the perfect fiery kick. Basically, the pizzas are absolutely phenomenal (particularly given their price) so you should definitely visit!

In case you don’t have time to stay, Paesano do a takeaway too (I’ve never tried but it’s meant to be just as brilliant as sitting in). There are currently only two Paesanos - the one we visited and another in the West End of Glasgow (which serves equally as delicious pizzas, such as a roasted pepper vegan special I ordered last time I visited). Although saying this, apparently the company have plans to expand in cities across Scotland so keep an eye out for Paesano Pizza popping up in other places in the next few years.

All in all, Amy and I had a fab day shopping and eating in town (somehow managing huge smoothies from Fuel even after our giant pizzas!). Much like all of my friends who’ve been, we both absolutely love Paesano Pizza and so I’d definitely recommend to anyone who visits Glasgow and has a desire for some unforgettable pizza! Let me know in the comments if you’ve ever been to Paesano, or if you have some amazing pizza places of your own to recommend.

Black Plisse Trousers

It’s nearly the start of a whole new week filled with actual work at school now that prelim analysis is over (well, apart from English because all of the writing takes ages to mark). I’m delighted with my results so far and almost wish I didn’t have to do the exams all over again (but for real this time) in a couple of months…

Anyway last night I was at a little ceilidh hosted by one of my friends to raise money for his World Challenge Expedition. I finally got around to wearing my black trousers (a present from my parents at Christmas), so I thought I might as well do a little fashion post about my outfit.

The trousers are from the brand Light Before Dark in Urban Outfitters (aka my favourite clothes shop ever) and they’re absolutely brilliant. They’re super comfy, cosy without being too warm (making them perfect for winter), made of a beautifully soft material and (brace yourself ladies!) they even have pockets too - what a breakthrough! For £42 they were definitely worth it - I’d totally recommend.

happy smile

Here I’ve paired the trousers with a bright pink lace bralet (you may remember seeing it here before) and my white converse - apologies for the muddy state of them! On any other occasion I’d have opted for heels but given I was in for three hours of dancing I thought the wiser option was probably flats - my feet still hurt by the end of the night anyway!

Oh and for a little laugh, here’s a picture of me attempting to spin around in a hope to get a cool hair flick picture (like the ones here and here), although sadly it didn’t work particularly well this time and I may have fallen over…

Let me know your thoughts on my outfit (particularly the trousers) - I’d love to hear if you have any other ideas for how to style them, I’m always looking for new sources of inspiration. Hope you’ve had a great week!
