Happy Friday the 13th! You’ve probably guessed from my lack of blog posts recently that I’ve been rather busy, so I thought I’d fill you in on what I’ve been up to lately…
Everyone in my year has had loads of coursework to do for our Higher exams in May. It’s been tricky to find out how to balance this all with other activities, but I think I’m gradually getting the hang of it. I’ve finished my Biology assignment, written one of my English folio essays, done various Maths, Physics and Chemistry tests etc. so it’s definitely been full on, but hopefully I’ll be able to have a bit of a rest in the October Week!
As well as classwork, I’ve been doing quite a few other extra things in school too. Yesterday, I had a trip to my old primary school to give a talk with a few others about science up at Bearsden Academy - it’s scary to think that I’ll be in S6 next year. Fashion show rehearsals have started too for the show at the end of November - we’re dancing to Beyoncé’s Grown Woman which should hopefully be brilliant! All of the different music groups have started back too, so I’ve been at rehearsals for orchestra, wind band and a new woodwind trio too (the pieces we’re playing are great!). And on top of all of that, I’ve had School of Rock too…
School of Rock
It’s crazy to think that auditions for the School of Rock musical (based on the movie starring Jack Black) were all the way back in March. I was so pleased to get a role as one of the parents in the show, and as a cast we’ve been rehearsing for months for our shows at the beginning of this week. I’m not going to lie, I did have a love-hate relationship with this show at the beginning - it was a lot of work to attend all of the rehearsals and only be needed for a few lines - but in the last month we’ve had loads of rehearsals and I’ve come to absolutely love the show. All of the people involved have been fantastic and I’ve made so many friends. The three shows were amazing - we made so much progress from the beginning and the performances were phenomenal! Everyone did such an amazing job and I’ve absolutely loved the experience. It was so much fun to be part of such a brilliant show - if you ever have the opportunity to be involved in a musical of any form, I’d definitely recommend it! Thank you to everyone who was involved and a huge congratulations to you all!
There are always so many brilliant TV shows at this time of year. Lately I’ve been watching: The Apprentice (I always laugh at all of the conflict between contestants!), Great British Bake Off (Liam is definitely my favourite), Strictly Come Dancing (I love both Alexandra and Aston) and Riverdale (I’m so glad it’s finally back - this show is so addictive to watch). I also can’t wait for Stranger Things to come back at the end of this month too!
Trip to Coventry
Last weekend I had a short trip down to Coventry for my brother James’ black belt Tae Kwon Do grading. Although I was only there for less than 24 hours, I had loads of fun exploring the area and trying different vegan food (Wagamama’s new vegan menu is fantastic and I found a cosy little vegan cafe which was fab too), and I’m so proud to say that James got his black belt - yay!
And now it’s finally the October week - 10 days of relaxation before we have two months solid before Christmas holidays! Hopefully things will be a little quieter for me in the coming few weeks now that School of Rock is over… I’m so excited about tomorrow though as it’s my one year vegan anniversary! It’s crazy how quickly the year has flown by - veganism has definitely been a challenge - but I can’t wait to celebrate my one year anniversary!
I hope you enjoyed catching up on everything I’ve been doing lately. Hopefully things will calm down now and I’ll be able to blog a bit more consistently but I guess I’ll just have to see what happens...
What have you been up to lately?
