As mentioned in my About Me page, I absolutely love music - listening to it, playing it, dancing to it or singing along to it (very badly!). I'm sure many of you will agree with me that the best place to enjoy music is in the car (particularly on road trips), so I thought I'd share my favourite songs for car journeys. Prior warning: I apologise for my horrendously cheesy taste in music…
So here are my top 13 (because 10 was too mainstream and I had to be extra) songs for car journeys!

Hips Don't Lie
Shakira (feat. Wyclef Jean)
Thanks to my dad I'm a massive fan of Shakira and pretty much any Latin-American music in general! I really hope she does another world tour sometime soon (she’d be amazing live). This song is a definite favourite of mine - I think I’ve played it so many times that my family are starting to get a little sick of it in the car (not that that makes me play it any less)!
I Want It That Way
The best bit of this song has to be the horrifically cheesy key change just before the last chorus of the song. It’s one of those cringe-worthy yet totally brilliant key changes in almost every pop song from the end of the 20th century that makes you listen to the whole song purely for that moment. Every time this song comes on when I’m in the car with my family we all stop what we’re doing to be able to appreciate the moment in it’s entirety!
This list of songs couldn’t really be complete without at least one Beyoncé song on it and this is probably my favourite of hers - it just always boosts my mood every time I hear it (even though it was my alarm for about a year!). It’s such a good song to dance to as well, so that makes me love it even more!
Flo Rida (feat. T-Pain)
I have no idea what it is about this song that makes me like it, but I just think it has such a cool vibe and always makes me feel confident if that makes sense? We have a habit of doubling the volume every time this plays!
The baseline in this song is phenomenal so I love listening to it, but to be frank I have absolutely no idea what he’s saying in the song - do you? If only it was easy to dance in the style of Michael Jackson (I’m still perfecting my moonwalk!)…
Light It Up
Major Lazer (feat. Nyla & Fuse ODG)
Last year I ran the Great Scottish Run 10K in October and this song was my motivational song through training and on the race day (I think I listened to it 3 times in a row just before I began running!). Now every time I hear it it reminds me of that day and starts pumping my adrenaline!
Clean Bandit (feat. Sean Paul & Anne Marie)
When this song first came out I remember having it stuck in my head for days (and that’s no exaggeration!). I love the way Clean Bandit add so many layers into their songs and again, this song always lifts my mood if I’m having an off-day.
Gloria Estefan & Miami Sound Machine
My love of this song comes from two main sources - the first was when Kara Tointon (my favourite ever contestant on Strictly Come Dancing) danced the salsa to this back in 2010; the second is The Birdcage, which I watched on my 14th birthday, from the scene in which Agador Spartacus dances in the kitchen to the song (something I very much relate to!).
My mum and Dad both love The Killers so I heard quite a few of their songs growing up. Mr. Brightside was always a favourite (particularly in the last couple of years) thanks to its fast-paced, energetic rhythm. Honestly, I think almost everyone likes (if not loves) this song anyway!
Just The Way You Are
I think I’ve loved this song ever since I first heard it, but I didn’t actually buy it until after I watched Pitch Perfect where Bella mixes it with Just A Dream in the Pool Mashup. I’ve loved Bruno Mars ever since then and actually saw him in concert on his 24K Magic Tour two months ago (I would recommend to anyone who’s interested - he was brilliant on stage!).
Sean Paul (feat. Dua Lipa)
I think my brother introduced me to this song as I was doing a really bad job of keeping up with the charts and I’ve listed to it constantly ever since. To be honest though, I only properly learned the lyrics to the chorus a week ago and I’m not even going to attempt to sing along to Sean Paul - is it possible for anyone to even do that?!
